Default 4.6 ticking

I have a 2000 GT with a ticking sound. It only happens when I'm on the the throttle about 10-15%. It'll normally occur close to 2k rpm, but if i put the throttle halfway down itll go away until about 3k. I just did a fresh oil change with a quart of marvel mystery oil, but no change at all. Also, if I run high about 3k or more and let it idle back down in gear on its own, it won't tick....I can only get it to do it when im on the pedal. If this has happened to anyone I could really use a little help narrowing this down. Thanks

Did you trip any codes? SES light on? Any loss in power?

use a long screw driver like a stethescope... put it up to your ear and place it against different locations on the motor... youll find that tick REAL quick

no light or anything...still pulls just as good as before...although i tink i have narrowed it down. i had a stethoscope on it for awhile and it seems like my tick is coming from the timing cover, so we'll be taking that off this weekend

I had almost the exact issue as described in the first post... ticking around 2k under light load...

turned out to be a bad rod bearing... ended up putting in a new crank, main and rod bearings...

we first thought it was coming from under the valve cover... pulled those first and found everything up top to be tight and in spec...

Good luck!

Mike
