Default AZ Emissions

Does anybody know what is legal in AZ? My car is gonna be registered in AZ soon so I was planning on upgrading my exhaust. I was planning on getting long tube headers and an off-road H pipe, but wanna make sure thats AZ legal, at least somewhat.

As long as your not registered in the phoenix/tucson metro areas there is no emissions, if in phoenix/tucson you wouldnt need 1st emissions test till 2012 cars here are exempt until 5 years of age. After that as long as you have no check engine light on and your fuel cap is good you pass. In my opinion the older cars that are pre 96 are harder to get through emissions here than the newer ones, but its still all a joke, so mod away.

P.S if you get an Offroad h pipe you will need to invest in mil eliminators to keep the check engine light away. If you turn off the rear O2 sensors with a tuner or have a tune on the car of any sort when being tested at emissions you will fail.

Let me know if you got any more questions!!

Hmm, I had planned on using a tune to disable the rear O2 sensors, but hadn't thought about that causing an automatic fail. How exactly do they know that you have a tune anyways?

Is that just for phoenix/tucson metro areas? No emissions testing at all throughout the rest of the state?

When the rear 02 sensors are disabled thru a tuner the computer at emissions that they plug into the obd port in the car will show the rear 02 sensors as not ready causing the failure. Thats basically the only way they would know you have a tune other than you telling them. I just believe its easier to return the tune to stock the day of the test to insure that my car passes.

The mil eliminators work differently and do not cause the not ready. That is why I said you would need a pair if you live in phoenix/tucson area. They trick the computer into thinking that everything is ready and fine.

And yes thats for the phoenix/tucson areas, the rest of the state does not have any sort of emissions testing.

Return it to stock, and then drive it long enough to get the OBDII back to 'ready' status for everything that ready status checks for (there's more to it than just rear O2 sensor checks). Some cars reach this pretty quickly. Others . . . don't.

I did some minor looking around for mil eliminators for my car, but couldn't find any for 2005+ mustangs. Do they even make them for 05+? Will the older from 04 ones work on my car?
