Prospective Buyer, hoping for some advice
Hello everyone,
This is my first post here. I have loved Mustangs since I was old enough to drive and have never purchased one because I've always told myself it would be impractical. I live in NH so I would need to keep my suv for a winter vehicle. Too much snow not to! However, now I'm in the financial position to do so, and I'm looking. I don't know all that much about Mustangs, I've driven a 2003 Ford F-150 for the past 6 years, recently traded that in and bought an 05 Impreza wrx because I liked the sporty-ness, handling,hp and most importantly....All Wheel Drive for the winters! But I crave a Mustang like you can't believe
So I brought my boyfriend with me to eye the vehicle I have visually fallen in lust with. He knows a considerable amount about sports cars and performance parts. I do not know much about Mustangs or sports cars in general even, always been a ford truck girl.
The prospective car is raising a lot of questions here. I haven't gotten to test drive it yet, I hopefully should get the chance to do that later today. It is a private sale. It is a 5 speed 1999 GT w/ 130 k on it. It appears to have more than a few modifications.he seller was not around at the time so we are going back later today. My bf said that it was evident that the car had been boosted, and he was able to tell that from seeing remaining parts that were involved with that under the hood. Whoever owned it also bought the gauges, including the vac one and put those on above the dash. My bf says he is just concerned that it may have gotten the Sh** beat out of it. And I suppose the odds are in the favor of him probably being right. I mean, even though I'm only going to be driving it five months out the year, I still want to get a decent, reasonably long life out of the vehicle! As for work you can see just by looking, It has a Centerforce performance clutch, and Lethal Performance Parts, though I'm not sure exactly what. I was wondering if I am right to assume that because somebody put these parts and work into this beautiful vehicle, that it doesn't seriously jack the price up more than a grand or so obviously as a very general estimate? I know that it would heavily depend on what was done to the vehicle, but this person is requesting close to 3000 over Kelly Blue Book value.
As for the interior, it has leather seats that are in fair condition, they could use some attention but they are not ripped or anything like that, just a little worn but you have to expect that with it being 11 yrs. old. It could have definitely been a lot cleaner for someone who is trying to sell it, I know I would have had it spotless. The exterior, appears to not be original paint. I noticed the quarter panel being a slight shade lighter than the fender, the paint is in good condition though. It also has the rims of a newer mustang on it, alloy. They are asking 7,250. I blue booked the exact vehicle w/ all the appropriate options online and it came out to be 5,800.
Well, I'm rambling here so I'll wrap it up, but if anyone has any advice/things to look/watch put for while buying a stang that would be helpful. I have my bf to help me out a little but thought it would not be a bad idea to get others opinions who know specifically a lot about Mustangs, since my guy does not. Also, this is only the second vehicle I have purchased so I'm a little nervous in general
What do ya think?
Thankyou!

I would pass on it. Heavily modded cars tend to be bad cars to buy. You dont know how he drove it. Also engines that are not built for boost can easily be damaged by it if youre not careful. My friend has blown an engine in his boosted 350z running low psi. Now that it was done right, he is running higher boost with no problems.
PS You better be on www.nasioc.com with that rex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd let that one go.
You don't know it's REAL history and $3,000 over for a car that could have been beat nearly to death is too big a gamble.
There's alot of used Mustangs out there and don't just buy one because you can't find another close by.One will turn up.

As the others have said, I'd pass on that one. It could be a great car for you but its a gamble. If you can't pass it up though, at least have it inspected by an expert. Also make an offer at the book price. Every one selling asks for more than they expect to get.
