Default 2001 Ford Mustang Roush vs 2007 Mustang

Here's my problem. I'm 17 years old, and right now I have a 1991 camaro that my dad kicked down to me, that has over 200,000 miles. They want to get me a more reliable car since i will be goin off to college. Right now I'm looking at a 2001 Mustang Roush Stage 2 convertable. It has a little under 80,000 miles, it is a stick and is running for about $12,000. The other car is a 2007 mustang. It has a little over 30,000 miles. It is not a stick or a convertable. And the big thing its not a Roush. It's running for about $14,000.
I prefer the Roush but the 07 has less miles and I like the 07 style a little bit better. If it wasn't for the miles I'd pick the Roush.

So my question is which car would be better for my second car? How many miles will the Roush last until I start to notice problems, and the same question for the 07? Basically which car should I get. Any help plz.

Well the 07 will probably be more reliable overall. I hope its a GT for that price though... I've seen 07 v6's in my area go for around $10K, the GT's with miles for $14K.

The Roush would be awesome to have but you also have to ask yourself if it's practical for a college DD. Insurance will probably be higher for you, etc.

Both cars will, or should last a very long time. There is someone on these forums with 150K-200K miles on an 05 (I think?!) and there is someone else who is just about to hit 500,000 on a 2000... with care these cars seem to last forever!

Not really. Cars aren't like they were 40 years ago, technology has changed considerably. The general consensus in the automotive engineering world these days, is that if you're not getting minimum 300k out of a car, it either was not maintained or it was a lemon.

I pretty sure the 07 wasn't a GT, and the sales guy for the Roush was saying the insurence would be the same as a 01 Mustang because all they see is how the car was first made. If you look up a vin number it would show up as a 01 Mustang.

Thanks for all the reply's so far. I'm still not sure the 07 would me more reliable, and i like the body style better; but I would still prefer the Roush. I've test driven the Roush and it just felt good I couldn't get the grin off my face. But I havn't had a chance to drive the 07 yet.

If it's a V6 I hope it has nearly 0 miles on it, I paid like $12.5K for V6 with 20K miles on it last summer. Then during the winter some V6's in my area with I think around 45K miles were going for around $9K.
The insurance will probably be the same, however, you wont be covered for Roush Parts then and if you get in an accident you're going to be the one paying for new Roush parts -- unless you add them to the insurance plan.

07 will be more reliable plus... if your in multiple season conditions (ie: snow) the auto will get around better plus non convert won't have any elect problems with the top. Then how good of condition is the Roush in? Has it been raced before?... that makes a difference as well. Trust me if you think you'll get more ladies w/ the roush you won't. Most women won't really care between the small difference of the two. Unless there really into cars. Though for guys it's a BIG difference . Girls just want a good guy and a nice car. Which they both are.
