Default Timing Issue

Ok, so i have a 1995 3.8 with 133,000 miles on it. I developed a pinging about a month ago and have been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to fix it. So far I have replaced the serp. belt, spark plugs ( checked twice that they were burning correctly, and gapped correctly), replaced spark plug wires, and coil pack. The car is not throwing a CEL, never has. Questions are:

1.Can there be a problem and the computer just isnt throwing a CEL for some reason?
2. What else other test can i do to the car to see if its good?
3. Is there any tell tell signs of the computer crapping out?
4. This car is does not allow me to ajust the timing so how/why would the timing be off?
5. Could the "ping" be something else like a valve sticking?

Thanks for the help.

Matthew

If the MAF is dirty or broken it would feel like it was starving for gas or flooding.

Ok, well its not the MAF. Cleaned it out...that didnt work. Went and got a new one from AutoZone, and still no change....anything else? Could a "ping" sound be something else? Like a valve sticking?
