08 GT key ???
I have a 08 GT and hear that the key has a transponder in it. If so where is it located? In the black head of the key I know, but has anyone ever cut it apart to see how large it is?? i have a mod planned and need to know. Is it possible to cut the head of the key off and secure it in the ignition housing and still get the signal needed?
thanks in advance

if it is anything like the escape key, the transponder is about 1/2in long and about 1/8in wide. it looks like a small pill. i dont think that you can cut off the key head and still get your signal.
I mean cutting off the transponder part and mounting that inside the ignition housing. then you could use a different key with no transponder in it. since the original is already in there
im sure that it is possible to take out the transponder, but its made of glass so i'd be very careful. the key that I had was an aftermarket key, so there was a little plug and the transponder slid out. i think it is molded into the factory keys. but i think i get what you are saying now, if you can get it out without breaking, you should be able to find a way to secure it to the inside of the column and pick up signal.
Wait, don't those transponders have some sort of power supply?
I know the NEWEST Ford keys use the metal key itself to charge the transponder, doe's the old ones do the same? When the key is inserted into the ignition, the metal part touches an electrode, which sends a current through the key, to the transponder.
If not, and the transponder runs off a battery, I have a feeling you'll drain it very fast by having it placed directer by the receiver...After all, the transponder would always be giving it's signal then, right?

HUMMM... if that is the case i would be back to square one.
QUESTION.. when i was installing remote starts for a shop years ago there were wires that went over the ignition to simulate the signal for a remote start. Would that work?
