Default a few engine questions about 460 CI

I am currently starting to build a 1988 mustang lx. I am building a street legal drag. I have a neighbor that has a 69 lincoln continental with the 460 and he says a c6 transmission. He wants to sell the vehicle for $3000. The engine (he says) only has about 50 miles on it. The engine is clean and his word i can take. is this too much? is this engine/tranny worth buying and building? I don't know much about ford big blocks and am also wondering if this engine is suitable to build or do i need to find out more information about it?

The 460ci engine can be built to some make a ton of power (with some nice heads), and the blocks are strong. The biggest downside is the weight. Your Mustang will definitely be nose heavy, but for a drag race car- you should be able to deal with it. Remember, if you go with a set of aluminum heads- you can shave off about 60 lbs.

A C6 is fine to use with the 460ci.

$3000 doesn't seem outrageous, but I'd thoroughly check out any used engine- 50 miles or not- it may have been sitting for a long time.

a 460 is a worthwhile project, but there are so many options. I would look into aftermarket blocks, 351s etc and really know what your options are
