Default v6 to v8 swap

im thinking about swapping a v8 into my car this winter while i am deployed overseas and wanted to get some advice. i dont know how much of an aftermarket there is for the v6 or how fast i could make my stang. id like to be pretty fast but i drive back and forth from sc to nc a lot. 2 or 3 times a month almost a 600 mi round trip. i know everyone is gonna say to sell my car and buy a v8 but i cant cuz i wont get enough money for my car. it has 130,000+ mi. and i dont want to sell my car. its my first stang and i wanna keep it. but what v8? 5.0? sohc 4.6? dohc 4.6? crate engine? i dont know what i should do. please someone help me out thanx. oh yea i have a 99 with 5spd. what all would i have to cange if i made the engine swap?

You would have to change pretty much everything. You would be suprised how much stuff the GT has that the sixer doesn't and what you would need to make it happen. My advice, trade in!

You can purchase a complete engine swap from a company called GreenLeaf. I bought my 2003 Mach 1 engine/trans complete swapout for $3380 shipped, it also sent me the WHOLE ENTIRE FRONT SUSPENSION AND K-FRAME!!! The front suspension is Tokico shocks and 13" rotors with 03/04 Cobra/bulliit callipers (All three are the same.)
Next to change is your whole rear end to an 8.8" setup. Honestly you can use just about any 8.8" I believe from 94-98 as well or just find a wrecked 99+ model and grab it from them. Granted 94-98 is about $500 bux and I dont really know about 99+ model prices, but thats for the complete drop in rear. I also should mension that my package came with the ECU and full wiring harness. My engine was suppose to come with 0 miles but came with about 8000 which I dont really mind to much because I invested $1850 into a full forged stroker kit to take it to a 5.0L so it doesnt really matter. Most of his engines come with less then 10,000 miles on them, Be specific.

How was the transaction you might ask. Well it was rough but we got through it and he refunded me around $1000 dollars for sending me an Auto instead of a manual engine and for not sending me the shaker. So that covered most of my Rebuild costs to the stroker which I didnt mind what-so-ever. Point is he was a great business man and fixed what problems I had.

I plan to make 500-600hp (still a few key things to think about) and I will only have about $4500-5000 into this engine and swap. Its for sure a worthwhile project. By the way, this is going into my 95' V6 stang so I know the pains of having to switch V6 crap to V8 quality grade

Now for the V6 side. Before you do anything check these people and and give him a call. Super Six Motor Sports They can build a 4.3L stroker V6 that can handle about 1200hp for close to $6500. You have to put your own power added on though. If your going NA then you can get about 450 ponies out of his setup and be reliable. But once again when upgrading to that kind of power you have to upgrade certain things link your braking system and your differential. Not to mention a key component to racing, your suspension.

They are also good people, they were going to hook me up with a small sponsorship for that same engine at $5000 dollars out the door. But seeing the power and price of the Mach 1 conversion I went that way cause I had the money then for it

If you do decide to go with a V8 then at least get your model years for it so just in case you move to a new state like California you can still pass bar and smog. 99+ engines for you my friend. If you want a 5.0L then just do what I did and have a CAMMER 5.0L but you wont be paying $15,000 for it and you will be making about 150 more ponies then it would

Good luck and have fun

You have to give them a call and the sales team will search their more detailed database and tell you what they have.

Here is the number to the store that I bought my engine from, the mans name is Art. Make sure to tell him that Eric, that bought the Mach1 setup in Sacramento recomended you. He will take care of ya.

1-800-342-5499
Ext. 2237
Ask for Art.

His access to engines vary but he should be able to find one for you fairly easily.

Later guys.

If your car is not already a 4.6L car (AKA 96-04) then you will need to K-frame with the car too and the whole front suspension, mine came with it so most likely yours will too, he sells the engines in packages like that. Just call and ask and like I said, be very specific.

I took the time to sit down and think hard about what I would need to make it work, I wrote that down on a list and then I went over it with him, then he told me what came with the conversion and what would cost extra.

Good luck.
