I know the 1965 Ranchero came with the front drums with studs. Basically, the center bearings, nut and cotter pin holds on the wheel assembly. Your local parts store should carry the drums. Otherwise, pick your favorite Mustang restoration source.

Yes, the 68 did come that way. However, when you go to buy new drums it is likely that you will only get the drums without the hub. If that is the case, you will have to knock your studs out so that the hub will seperate from the old drum. When you put it back together, you install the studs in the hub and isntall the hub on the car. Then you slide the drum on over the studs turning it into a captured drum style system. When you bolt the wheel back on, this keeps the drum on. This is very common to have to do and it is the way that almost every modern car is now days.

I don't think you can install the studs into the hub. First, I don't think there's any material for mounting them, and second, the studs would end up much shorter.

Just buy new drums and use new studs or swap in the old ones.

Heck, even the new Focus uses rear drums with the center bearing retainers. And many of the GM vehicles, including trucks, used front discs with the center bearing retainers for decades.

Yes, you can install the studs in the hub. I have done it many times. That hub is at least a half inch thick which is PLENTY thick enough to press studs into. And you may not be able to find new drums that have the hub. I just did the brakes on a 67 and I couldn't get new drums with a hub already attached. I had to do it the way I described.

I realize that most of the older vehicles have the hubs attached as well as SOME later model vehicles but most late models have gone to a captured style system. I probably do at least 20 brake jobs a week at work.
