Default 2000 Insuffient EGR Flow

Wife has a 2000 V6 Mustang with a 5 speed, went to get emissions done and it failed.

the car is popping P0401, somebody told us to disconnect the line that goes from the EGR to the exhaust and clean with a q tip. I'm not sure what the EGR Valve looks like, just told it was on top of the manifold.

any help would be appreciated

Thanks

not sure if it is the same on the 3.8 as it is on my 5.0, but there would have to be a ton of stuff in that tube for it to be clogged. its about a 7/8" metal tube that runs from the bottom of the EGR valve into the exhaust manifold. The EGR on my car is mounted on the intake manifold, right past where the throttle body connects. it should look similar to this

Hi,

Do those New Edge Mustangs have the DPFE sensors? I know thats a common failure on the Taurus and will pop a EGR code.

Yes, they do and yes that is probably what the problem is. VERY common on newer Fords. Far more common than having a problem with the valve itself.

so does my mother's 2000 V6 mustang have this DPFE sensor?
if so, is there any way to check to see if it's bad before replacing the whole valve?
