where is the speed sensor?
its not hard to change but do you have a working speedometer too? or is it just the odometer? because the speed sensor controls both.
the speed sensor is on the transmission and only has one bolt holding it on. very easy to change. most of the time its the speedo gear and not the sensor that has gone bad. but you would have to remove it to find out.

I have a 1997 mustang v6, and I believe I have a speed sensor out or something. I have recently ran it low on transmission fluid. and I just filled it up today. But its like I dont have first gear. it starts to go a little bit. then kicks in. its not leaking fluid or anything. and its a automatic. Im really hoping I didnt blow my tans... someone help
It is a common problem in those years that the gear in the ins. cluster breaks (if the speedo still works). You will have to remove the ins. cluster and take it apart. They make a kit (http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...epair-Gear-Kit). They also have a how to youtube to watch on how to install it (http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...ir-Kit-Install). Have fun. It's not hard I have done it before. I hope this helps.
What color was the fluid before you added more? If it have dark in color and smells burnt, chances are you burnt the clutch pack. Do you know how to do a stall test? A stall test will test the internal components to see if the hold tight. Check a manual to see what the stall test is for your car. I found it should be somewhere around 1600 to 1800 RPM. To preform a stall test you set the parking brake, hold the brake pedal firm, put the car in gear and hold the gas pedal down all the way. The cars RPM should not go beyond the high limit (1800), if it does it means the internal clutches are slipping causing heat the will burn your ATF. Heat is the trans. fluid worst enemy. Adding more fluid now will not fix the issue. As the clutches in the trans are worn down or the seals that apply the clutches are leaking it takes the pressure longer to engage fully causing the clutch plates slip (especially under a heavy load). So if you have any engagement at all it means that there is still some clutch material left (but not for long). I have been a mechanic for 40 years and have taught Auto trans at the community College level. I hope this information help!

Why did you run it low on transmission fluid??? No fluid = no working transmission when you drive it.
