Default So... Funny Story Yesterday After Car Wash

So it's been pretty cold and snowy where I live lately. It's finally starting to get kind of nice compared to what's it been and I wanted to get the stang washed. I wanted to get a quick rinse in an automatic wash to get all of the salt off and stuff.

I get home and I'm looking at my car, I notice something is different...

My shorty antenna was missing! The damn car wash ripped that sucker right off and it was a pretty clean cut too. You can't really notice it unless you really look for the antenna, but I have learned my lesson, even for a quick rinse after the seasons.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm just curious because I really feel like I'm not the only one.

No you are not alone! I was back in the UK for Christmas to see my Dad, while I was there he lent me his Land Rover to drive around for convenience. Pretty nice of him! So I thought I would do give him a surprise when I gave it back, so I cleaned all the interior for him (1st class job... for a 12 year old vehicle it looked brand new inside). I then took it down the car wash to get the outside done...... all going well until I hear this tapping sound.... I look up and yup, you guessed... the antenna is bent and tapping on the windshield!

I cleaned the outside to a shine and returned it back to my Dad. He comes out and says "Wow, it looks amazing, what a surprise!"...... I then explained that was not the surprise..... you lost your antenna!

Happens to the best of us!

wow, I always wondered going through the carwash if I should be worried about my antenna. Looks like I'll be removing it next time I get a carwash. And wtf, since we're on the topic, I don't normally get automatic car washes except in the winter. Every time I do, it comes out the other end looking like crap. All the salt and everything drips out of the mirrors all over both doors and WAY worse out of the license plate area. This happen to anyone else?

Yup I had this happen to me just 3 or 4 weeks ago. I only had the 8" shorty antena for a week and after driving home for the hollidays I went through the good car wash in the area. I came out the other side to see the antenna bent about 90 degrees. I was able to bend it back without any noticable damage which was nice. From now on when I go through an automatice which istn' to often I just unscrew it and then replace when done. Touchless is the way to go durring winter.

Kinda sucks but better than not having an antenna.

Touchless automatics are the only ones worth using, unless you don't care about your paint. They still do a crap job, but better than nothing sometimes. When I don't have the time to handwash mine in the driveway I like to use the coin-op pressure washers, you can usually do a pretty reasonable job with those (don't use that foam brush though); I bring a good towel for drying and my detailing stuff and can usually knock it out in a little more than an hour.

lol, I bet they (the carwash) find mad antennas in their waste water system however often they clean it.
