Default Problem after wreck

The steering wheel turns a few milimiters before the wheels start to turn. It feels as though there is a gap between the weels and the steering wheel. So the steering wheel moves a bit, and it's really light then, and then it hits something and the wheels start to move and the steering wheel gets heavy.

Sounds to me the chain is out of adjustment in the steering box.I know on older ones there was a nut with a allen head in the middle you could loosen the nut and tighten the bolt to take up the slack in the chain, and them retighten it.Im not sure what year yours is but it might not have this adjustment. someone else could chime in and know a more definate answer but I know they were adjustable

Good to hear I'm not the only one who crashed his stang (The body's fine, left wheel and parts in the left steering linkage didn't fair so well). How'd ya do it, hit a curb? If you did hit a vehicle, please tell me it was a civic or a sunfire and you totalled it, that'll make me feel a lot happier. Good luck with getting parts, I have to wait almost a month for one of mine (ford has to actually physically make it) .

Did you check out your parts list for a steering rack, like I said before in the '05 section?

There are pistons in your steering rack and when you get hit like that they will get all fuggered up and give you a bit of play in the wheel.

I had the exact same problem.

sorry, if you already answered me in '05 but i didn't look yet. [8D]
