Default radar detectors?

now i know theres probably been hundreds of post asking the same question but im looking to buy one and i just want to know, valentine 1 or 8500/S2? ive been to both of thier websites and the S2 seems basicaly like a cordless 8500 and they just praise them alot, but the V1 site does alot of escort bashing saying that V1 has longer range and picks up a signal over a hill way before the escort. so before i make this to long and no one wants to read it, who has what and how do you like it?</P>

-thanks</P>

Radar detectors make you lazy and inattentive. Go without and keep your peepers on the road.

radar can not "see" over a hill. Radar is only straight line. That's why cops can't hide around a corner andget you through a building. Detectors are made by the same people that made the radar systems... a huge scam is more like it.

No but Radar can catch stray beams (reflections, etc) and alert you to the presence of radar just out of sight.

But I still will never get one.
It's false security - get lazy and all it takes is one instant-on laser and you're history. Radar detector on the dash and your chances of getting out of a ticket go down the pooper.

Ihave aCobra ESD-9110 that I got for under a $100 at Best Buy. I was looking at the reviews for my model and was surprised to see that it's not too bad (I expected it to do worse). It has saved my azz many times.</P>

Default radar detectors?

Out of the 7 times I've been pulled over this year, not once have I been hit with radar. It would be a waste of money for me.

I'm with Vfast on this one. Radar detectors do help, but you cannot depend on them soley. You also must be observant. If you're going to get a radar detector, why not just get the best. Car & Driver every year has a radar detector shoot out and consistently Valentine 1 wins...Yeah it's costly, but if it does save you from one ticket, theyn it paid for itself. You also have to learn to "read" what the detector is telling you and the Valentine 1 is prolly the simplest to do so. I also like it directional signal indicators that tell you where the radar is coming from, front, rear or either side. Plus Valentine will upgrade your V1 free of charge when they update it with s/w flashes. Go to their website www.valentine1.com for more details. I figure if I'm going to go to a "gun fight" I might as well bring a cannon..<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0">

Hey Dan02GT,

Yeah where I live in California...they have gone to "Instant On" to try to get us...but the Valentine 1 is pretty good about intercepting "bounce" signals and gives a fair warning before you're in danger. Now you do have to not depend on the radar detector, you have to use it as a tool..using you vision and mind combined with the detector for the best results. We have a section of about 30 miles of hiway that is pretty twisty, and the speed limit is 50, the cops patrol there in masses, and hide in every turn out they can, I have been saved many times by the detector picking up the signals...YMMV...

The valentine 1 is the way to go, its incredible. I dont use them, because I think its annoying and rather not rely on them completely, due to the fact that they go off so frequently on miss-signals. But my friend has the valentine 1 and man does it work great, other buddy has an Escort 850 or 8500 or something and its not that great, the range isnt good at all. Valentine 1 talks to you and points to exactly where the po is, so go with V1.</P>

You could always go the illegal way and buy a descrambler from some where, makes the cops radars go nuts. That'd be funny.</P><edited><editID>95Stealth302</editID><editDate>37948.5384606481</editDate></edited>
