S197 vs. SN95
This is NOT a bashing thread.
I was just wondering where everyone stood here. I wasn't really paying attention to the demographics in 2005 when they redesigned the mustang, and now that they're releasing, IMO a new generation for 2010, I was curious about how you SN95 owners reacted to the redesign in 05. I'm also curious about difference in performance & handling, to those of you who have owned both I would love to hear your experience with the switch, and whether or not you prefer one or the other and why.
Thanks guys.

The s197 is a better vehicle by far. Better design, better looks and better performance (by what I have read). I believe the sn95 still had some left over parts from the Fox bodies (again, by what I have read). When the sn95 was born Ford was still doing the Mustang on a shoe string budget. The s197 got a lot more attention, and money to make a totally new car. Not bashing and don't want to get into an argument about it, but I like the s197 better. As compared to the 2010, don't really care about the changes, they are mostly cosmetic. Ford is going to try and get their moneys worth out of this chassis before moving on. The 2014 may have parts from the s197 just like the sn95 did, who knows.
the sn95 motor is basically the same as that from 93 and older 5.0s other then intake and other minor things. if you want a fast DD i would go with a s197 for better creature comforts. if you want a race car or dont mind giving up some comfort, a sn95 is the better of the two. a 5.0 motor is much cheaper to build hp by a long shot. probably half the price once you really get into it. but really it all depends on what your going for. my g/f loves my mustang because of all the power it has but wouldnt want a fox body, she wants a newer mustang because her goal for the car would be to have a reliable car that has the creature comforts most people want (ac, heat, power everything) while still being cool (which any mustang is)
They quit making the SN-95 Mustang in 1998. 1999 on up to 2004 is New Edge. Not all SN cars had the 5.0. In 96 they went to the 4.6 2V SOHC. (Trying to clear up some confusion that is in this thread)
Personally I'd have a New Edge over the 05-09. I like the look better and they are easier to modify, much larger aftermarket.

Ah young ones. SN95 is the platform from 1994 to 2004.
I stuck with my 2000 instead of getting the new body b/c I hate the interiors of them. They aren't suited to my body size and the gauges aren't laid out like I would place them for easy viewing.
I do like the 05-09 better than the 2010. I think the rear end looks like a saggy wet diaper.

The S197 is generally a better platform from a design and engineering standpoint. Much better rigidity which helps a lot to put power down and with handling. Sturdier in a collision, less vibration, noise etc. It, like any car that is newer than the previous generations, has the advantage of time, better engineering, better materials technology, better manufacturing etc.
With the upcoming 5.0L DOHC in the 2011's, the potential of the S197 as a factory performance car is really starting to be realized. With time, technology marches forward.

I will say the suspension setup on the s197 is far superior to the sn-95s setup. The s197 shifter linkage setup places the shifter in a better location for taller drivers over the sn-95 also. The sn-95 has the advantage of being a lighter chassis and a has larger aftermarket as it is still considered a fox-based platform. The aftermarket for the s197 v6 is alot better than the sn95 v6.
I prefer the SN95 over the New Edge but prefer the S197 over both.
If i were to own a SN95, id go with a SN95 that had a 302. For the S197, id go with a 4.6 over the 3.8 obviously.
The New Edge Mustang is my least favourtie. I just dont like how they look.
Im personally a Fox fan though

I like the 1998+ SN95 better than the older ones, with the exception of the Mach III concept. That thing is a sexy beast. I like them all better than Foxes. Not trying to be rude but the fox kind of looked like an econo-box.
They just didn't have that sporty, classic styling they started to bring back in 93.
