Default Emissions requirements?!?! Please help.

I live in Illinois and was looking for a way to get out of emmissions I waould like to know if there are any ways to get out of the emmissions......ANY!! I know that you can have a "special" car or something but can only drive it like 2500 miles a year. And what year do they requrie emissions? pre-1973. I tried googling it but i just got a bunch of wird Secretary of state stuff. Thanks for Any help.

As far as I'm aware, it's really damn hard to get out of emissions testing. I guess you could out on whatever you took off/changed every 2 years to go to the Echeck, but I'm sure that's a hassle as well. I don't think you can get by it man... maybe if you know someone who works there and will pass you.

Luckily for me, the Echeck is over at the end of this year in some parts of OH. My county included. So when it comes to getting an exhaust, I can get whatever I want. YAY!

Maybe they'll end it there as well, a lot of states are giving up on it.

Here's a novel idea...how about putting the emissions equipment back on your car and leaving it there? I'm a car enthusiast as well, but I'd still like to limit the amount of pollution I'm putting into the air. I have a kid, and would like him to be able to enjoy breathable air. Vehicles with no emissions equipment are horridly polluting, take the small HP hit, or put on some free-flowing cats, or whatever.

That stinks that you guys have emissions. I live in FL and I remember going with my Mom a long time ago, but they dont have them anymore where I live. You should just move down here to solve your problem.

my neighbors cars pass emission with no smog pump, he just puts the cats on and they "overlook" the smog pump and it passes just fine so just throw some cats on there and buy the guy checking your car a case of beer and your good to go!

I live in the Milwaukee area & we too have emissions testing. There are places outside of the industrial areas (Milwaukee, etc...) that do not require emissions testing. Now, I'm not sure if you have the same deal in Illinois but if so you could find a friend or relative that you can use as a residence for licensing etc...; Otherwise move to one of the regions in Wisconsin!

so say you have an o/r x pipe. If you used a programmer to turn off the the rear 02 sensors, would you still not pass? I thought all they really do is look for malfunction codes.

edit: on obd II cars..
