Default Help on Mileage Issue

I have a 91 LX Conv. It was in storage and was broken into and the ignition cylinder along with part of the wiring under the cover was damaged. I found a mechanic, now moved to another state, to fix it. He installed a streering wheel, ignition cylinder, cover and fixed what was underneath. I drove it for about 5 miles and everything seemed okay so I stored it again. Recently I took it out and stated to drive it and noticed the speedometer has started to not keep accurate speed...jumping around...up and down. Then I noticed that my actual mileage is now over 495,000!!! I had probably 148,000 on it because my old oil change sticker was in the window and it said the next scheduled OC was at 150,000.

Anybody have any guesses to what happened? Could my mechanic accidentally jumped the mileage? Did speedometer cable cause jump in mileage? Can Ford do anything to roll back miles? Am I stuck with a car that has 340,000 more than what I put on it??
