Shift knob help?

Shift **** help?
So I found an old frag grenade and I want to use it as a shift ****. I want to unscrew the top part (the part with the pin that you pull and the firing mechanism) and remove it. Then, turn the bottom part upside down and use it like that. I'm looking for a plasticy compound that I could fill the grenade with , let it dry, and then drill a hole the size of the shank of the shifter. Then, it has to be soft enough to crank it on there and cut the threads but hard enough to tighten down and hold those threads. Think of the material inside the stock shift ****. You could screw that onto pretty much anything and it would just recut the threads. I know I'm probably looking for an amazing magical substance but that's just an idea, help please?

Years ago I bought this stuff called "steel repair" it's a gray paste that comes in a toothpaste tube. Squeezes out like toothpaste but turns solid once it sets. That'll do U
Or get something called plastic wood. Once hard you can drill & tap it no problem

Be kinda cool looking if you emptied the grenade, drilled and threaded the bottom and reinserted the handle and pin without the primer, then faced it handle forward. Hope it doesn't go off while you are trying to disarm it.
