The car won't even turn over while being towed and the clutch popped in gear?? Are you sure the e-brake is not on? If its not on and your motor will still not turn over then sounds like you locked her up.

If it sounds like a horrid screech then you might have a seized engine. Check your oil level... if its super low then you probably have your answer.

Similar to what Doodleson said...

Sounds like it could be a hydro-lock - and that would be bad news. If a cylinder fills with fluid it can't compress (like air/fuel does) when the piston goes up during a compression cycle. So when the engine gives that piston a push it will usually bend or break the rod for that piston, and that's a big PIA repair, and a bigger PIA bill. Fluid can get into the cylinder from different places, but is commonly from a cracked intake manifold.

I'm not saying that's the answer... just a possibility. Good luck.

Steve

First thing to check is whether the engine can be rotated by hand. Use a long ratchet or breaker bar on the snout of the crank and try to rotate it.

If it moves, than you can start diagnosing the internals and possibly the heads. You can also check the condition of the oil- note the color, smell and presence of any metal particles.

If it doesn't move, then the screeching you heard was the belt slipping as the engine slowed suddenly and the pop was something internal letting go.
