Welding Practice
A gentleman's bet. I no longer have a MIG set up at the house and we do not use them here at work. I can submit some photos of a 2" carbon steel line that I just got through with. The only other thing we or I can go with is stick electrode or TIG which I do have at the house. Is that acceptable to y'all? We could do 1/4 c/s plate 3G. I will run it with a 6010 root / 7018 hot cover, or I can run it out 7018 all the way. I also might be able to run a 2" sample of pipe and cut it if you want to see the root pass. For the record, I am not sure of your name, I have NEVER doubted your ability to weld, reguardless of what you might think. I am up to it if you are. The 7018 all the way out will be more of comparing apples to apples though I think.
Tell you what we can do, if it is OK with you. You do yours in 1/8th. I will do mine in 1/4. If you want we can do a double V, no backing in 3G. Since I do not have a MIG, how would you like for me to run mine? 6010 root w/ 7018 cover or 7018 all the way out? I am working on getting permission to post some pics. Some of a 2" sch 80 c/s that was done with TIG and a 3" sch 80 c/s line ran with stick (6010 root/ 7018 hot/cover). I took a picture of that one so you can see the root pass inside. Do you just want to do a visual, or do you want to do root/face bend tests? I personally think that Gregski can be as good a judge as anyone. What he says goes, and is final. Is that alright with you?
man this is difficult..... how about we bolth just post some pics of work weve done? lol... ill go run a few beads of flux core so he has an idea of what it should look like... sound good?
That will be fine with me. I have gotten permission to post those pictures. I am at home and they are at work however. I will try to get them up tomorrow. I am not too hot on the computer, so I may have to get you to post them for me if you would. I will PM you my email address. Yes this is difficult, but if it was easy my wife would be doing it. I am guessing (if I am wrong please correct me) that you are starting out in your career. I wish you all the best in your career, and hope that yours has been as good to you as mine has been to me. I truly enjoy going to work everyday and hope that you will / do as well. You and I have a job that is a dying breed so to speak. I am a fourth generation welder in my family. Two uncles, my father and now me. I used to play with my dad's welder when I was 9 years old. I started out "writing" on plate with a 7018. I started my apprenticeship in June of 1985. I am now 44 and work as a pipe / pressure vessel welder for 3M in Decatur AL.
Thanks for helping me out! The 1st, 2nd, next to last, and last pics are of 3" pipe with a 6010 root w/ 7018 cap (stick electrode). All of the others are 2" carbon steel pipe done with TIG. The "28" you keep seeing is my welder ID.
hey, just wanted to let you know. I will be posting up some pics of welds I have done, but it will be a couple/few days or so. Currently I am writing this while sitting next to the woman laying in a hospital bed admitted to the hospital........
**** take care of family don't worry about this bull ****. We got your back. Inspect the bed post welds to kill some time, LOL hope she gets better soon.
