Default power window stuck down driver side

ok so i have a 2002 gt with the driver side window stuck in the down position and im thinkin new motor so i decided to come to this site and see what everyone else is doing about this problem. so i just read the part where you just hit the motor with your fist.
so i thought why not so i ran out to the garage and hit it , it went up perfectly WOW unbelievable. My ? is why whats really happening? is something going bad or what?
do i have to worry about this problem forever now or do i just keep hitting it?
Thanks NC

That depends on how much of a gambler you are.

For a daily driven car, especially one you drive with the windows down. Hell ya, I'd fix that one. Who knows the situation you could be in the day hitting it doesn't work. Raining, you are not a home and it's down, that would suck.

If it just comes out on sunny days, then back home into the garage. This can be left for later.

Next time it's stuck. Turn on the lights or carefully watch the voltage gauge. Now press the window switch and see if there is a current draw. Movement in the gauge or some light dimming is most likely a shorted motor. No change is probably an open circuit.
