Default Bleeding the Power Steering Ram

I'm replacing a power steering ram cylinder on a 67 Mustang, and I believe that there is air in the lines. With the pump full of fluid, I turn the car on, touch the steering wheel and the wheel quickly spins back and forth. I try bleeding the lines to the cylinder, but I cant stop the steering wheel from spinning. Any suggestions on what is causing this & how to fix it?

The only way to bleed the system is to be patient.

When the fluid sits in the power steering resorvoir. The air bubbles will rise to the surface. The next time the engine is running. Bubbly fluid from in the ram will eventually go to the resorvoir. Again, time for the air to rise to the surface, eventually it will be all gone.

what would cause the steering wheel to spin quickly back & forth by itself? if it had air in the lines, wouldn't that just make it tough to turn the wheel?

sounds to me like you have the hoses backwards. i had 'em mixed up on my '69, and if i just barely touched the steering wheel, it would rip outta my hand and go all crazy.

Yep, that was it. The lines are crossing, but that was the fix. Thanks.
