Often we see in the sports page about F1 racing. It is not clear about the formula one, if it is some formula then are there any other formula? Please clarify.

FIA has multiple levels of racing, or "formulas." Formula 1 is the top level of motorsports racing in the world. Everything about it is extreme in every way, and the cost is astronomical(a single engine that is used for only 2 races is $330,000). The current engines are 2.4L naturally aspirated 90* V8's with single plane crankshafts that are producing around 750hp at 18,000rpm. The previous generation engines were producing close to 1,000hp at 20,000rpm. All engine and are required to run on "pump fuel."(they're allowed to change the % composition of components in the fuel, but it MUST be using the same components as premium pump fuel, so it's basically a more refined premium pump gasoline).

The "Formula" per se, is the rules for the specific class of racing.
