I have a 1994 Mustang V6 and my problem is that when I'm driving the car will start to overheat and I never have any heat inside the car. I've tried putting a new thermostat in and flushing the rad and heater core but that didn't help.The only ideas I can come up with now are that it could either be the waterpump or the head gasket but there is no white smoke coming out of the exhaust but I'mconstantly filling the rad up and have no idea where the water is going. If anyone else has had this problem could you please reply. (it's almost winter and I have no heat <IMG src=smileys/smiley19.gif border="0">haahaha) Thanks

 

Your Heater core is probably leaking and needs to be replaced. usually it is behind the glove box and if it was leaking you would have a wet floor.A line may just become disconnected from the heatcore and is leaking in the engine compartment.

 

I thought about that too, but there's no water in my car and it went through fine when I flushed the heater core. Also, would that make the car overheat? thanks

 

Yes, lower levels of coolant or liquid in your radiator will leave more room for air to get in the system, and as you can imagine air will heat up much faster than coolant.</P>


If your losing coolant, you should replace all of your radiator hoses especially if you aren't burning the coolant. They are cheap anyways and with the age of your Mustang it's about time to anyways. Have you checked to see if your fans are coming on? The relay switches are known to burn out...I noticed you said your heat is no longer working, I would take a look into your heater core, you may have a leak before it goes into your car.</P>


I had a leaky hose once in my 88 Iroc-z, it wouldn't leak parked anywhere, but going down the road when the system was pressurized it would leak and I was always refilling. </P>

 

I'm pretty sure it's not the hoses, but I think I'll still change them anyways. I just replaced the rad fan and I'm positive it's coming on. How do I test to see if it's the waterpump? Thanks</P>

 

Remove your radiator cap and turn your car on.</P>


When you replaced the radiator fan, did you face them so they blow air at the motor and not the radiator? They are supposed to draw air through...</P>

 

nothing happened when I turned the car on wit the cap off while it was cold, so that makes me think it's not the head gasket

 

I got it checked out today and it turns out I need a new gasket for my front timing cover

 

you were losing coolant, and when there's no coolant in your radiator, your heat won't work. happened to me in my old 87 formula.
