Default 2004 GT Standard - Fog light switch replacement

I need to get my fog light switch out. Does anyone have the parts list photos of this area from the shop manual? I would like to know how to remove and replace the switch and how to properly access the switch, and radio. Thanks -JZ

Take the two phillips head screws out of the console storage compartment and remove it. Reach down inside to the switch and press the two clips, one on each end, then push up. Unplug the switch, then plug the new one in, press down, reinstall compartment.

You're done!

Confused a bit? The switch is below the radio. I have a standard. Are you saying I need to remove the screws from the console, The shift ****, Then lift the entire piece out? I was thinking I would need to remove the shift ****, then the boot and mounting plate, then access the switch? Which way is right?

Not confused at all. In my 2000 model it's in the console between the storage compartment and stick shift. Haven't played with one mounted below the radio, though it shouldn't be too difficult as that is where I mounted my Zr4 Shifter...

Unscrew your shifter ****, pull on the boot to remove that piece as it holds the stereo mounting plate in place. Then pull outward on the bottom edge of the radio plate, working your way up. Mine has a 'prong/clip' at each bottom corner of the stereo which are relatively difficult to get disengaged. They pull straight out and I'm always scared I'm going to break the plate when removing mine. Once you have done that you should be able to access the switch with no difficulty. Fwiw, what I am calling the radio plate is the piece that goes from the ac vents down to your shifter housing. Not sure what else to call it...

Getting ready to do my headlight switch as the dashlights are getting sketchy. That should be fun...

Thanks Fox466 -- I'll give it a shot sometime this week. Still waiting for the new switch to arrive. I think the holiday slowed down the shipping process. I am also concerned about breaking something. Guess I will have to go easy :-) -JZ

Thumbs up

Put the switch in yesterday. The switch was the reason my fog lights were on with the headlights and could not be shut off independently. They work correctly now. Thanks Fox for the advice.

Projects always bring more questions.

I did not completely remove the dash finish plate. Meaning I left the top attached at the air conditioning / heat vents and only pulled the bottom enough to changed the switch.

I noticed the lower right clip that holds the finish plate on was broke so I went to my local ford dealer to purchase the clip. I was told by parts that I can not buy the clip I have to buy the whole finish plate.

Two Questions:

(1) Is the parts guy right?

(2) To remove the finish plate and a/c vents completely, is it clipped at the top as well? Meaning simply pry gently as I did on the bottom section to remove?

Thanks

-JZ

Mine just has the two clips under the radio...

And congrats on getting that much accomplished!
