Default Need help with electrical problem

I just bought a 2000 gt vert and I ve had it about 3 weeks. Last week when I was driving a burning smell was coming from where the top folds into because i think water got into it. The next day i go to start it up and it dies instantly. Thinking the battery was bad I got a new one but now im not getting any power. The only thing that happens is the theft light blinks but none of the interior lights come on. The only way I can get power is when a battery charger is hooked up but still thats not enough to get it to crank over. Im thinking it might be a bad ground but im not sure where they are located besides the core support. Does anyone know how to fix this thanks.

When this started, did the battery gauge peg. I'm no auto-electric expert but you should check to see if the battery cables are bad. They may have fried.

Standard procedure for tracking down no crank issues:
Step 0) Check fuses. Replace any that are blown.
Step 1) Swap the starter relay with a known good relay (like the windshield wiper relay).
Step 2) Check the battery terminals and cables for corrosion. Clean or replace depending on amount of corrosion.
Step 3) Check battery with volt meter or multimeter, or better yet take the battery to a local auto parts store and have them run a load test on it. Most auto parts stores will do it for free. A load test simulates load on a battery when starting up.
Step 4) With the key in the run position, but the car not running, check the connections to the starter with a volt meter and make sure only one wire has 12 volts, and the other wire has continuity with a good ground.

Post the results of the above tests and we can go from there… Good luck...
