Default California smog sucks!

Anybody out there have a stock intake airbox for a 99-04 gt they want to sell?
The smog ****'s are hating on my cai. What's even more stupid about is they have passed me before, so I don't see what the big deal is? Recyclers don't have it and the dealership wants $278!!!

It doesn't mess with the actual emissions, it just fails the visual inspection because there is no CARB EO associated with it.

to the OP, what brand/model do you have? try looking it up on the CARB database, if you have an EO number you can then tell the dufus where to stick it. Unfortunately not all CAIs are certified, but, if you end up having to spend the money to go back to stock, find an approved CAI instead for around the same price or less.

Does the CAI have a CARB or ARB number? if it does tell then to go pound sand and go to a tester that KNOWS what theyre doing. And if it were me being failed id report the tester for incompetance.

My smog tester said the same thing to me because I have some cheapo ebay CAI with a K&N. I told him I bout the car like that and he seemed not to care after that. I would take it to another place and see if they do the same thing.

Why would the EO be necessary at all if the emissions test is still passed? Cali needs to have the laws totally rewritten; the bottom line should be the actual emissions, not to support a stupid sticker.

Here in Californiastan, the Air Resources Board has entirely too much power and writes their own rules to maintain that power. It makes no logical sense that if the tailpipe emission are within range that you should be failed for a modification of any type.

I have a K&N CAI on my Dodge Durango and haven't had any issues passing smog. Just had it smogged last month and passed with flying colors.

I was at the local pick-n-pull a couple weeks ago and met a father/son combo who told me a similar story to the OP's and were looking to pull an intake from one of the junk cars. You might want to consider the same.

you passed because your K&N has California Air Resources Board Exemption Number.
if the OP has a cheap ebay/pepboys one it wont have one.
