Mmm. Is it a bolt on or PITA? Does the trans has to be dropped, or is installing shifter involves just removing center console?


Which shifter should I get? Pro 5.0 or B&M, or something else?

The only shifters I'd buy are either: 1.) the MGW shifter or 2.) the Steeda Tri-Ax (in that order). When it comes to quality, you really get what you pay for and the B&M is definitly one of the cheaper ones out there - I've driven Stangs with at least half a dozen different shifters and honestly, there's some crap out there. I usually find that only the people who've never tried a high quality shifter will tell you that the B&M is one of the best ones out there. As for the Pro5.0.... it's not too bad.... maybe middle of the road IMO.

Removal: Put the car in neutral, take the cover off the center console, remove the boot, unbolt and remove the shifter (make sure to take the isolator off of the bottom of the shifter shaft if it comes out).

Install: If the isolator came out, put it back in first. Bolt in the new shifter in, put the car into 3rd and adjust the set screw until it just touches, put the car into 4th and do the same thing.

That's about it. I prefer to go for a good drive before putting the cover back on because sometimes the bolts will loosen up or you'll have to fine-tune the set screws a little bit.

Why not just buy it directly from MGW and cut out the middle-man? That's all we've done in the past and George ships pretty quick.

dude, put a new ecu in it.

 

- Quietest aftermaket shifter out there, and comes with a shifter gasket for added noise/vibration dampening.
- Shortest throw of any shifter on the market (just under a 3" throw from 2nd to 3rd - see picture below)
- 360-degree adjustible handle that lets you put the **** exactly where YOU want it, and not some predetermined spot that Billy Bob over there in the shop picked for you.
- No shifter boot modification is needed (not every shifter requires a change, but some do)
- Strongest centering springs of any shifter on the market means that it'll take you some effort to miss 3rd.
- No cast parts - everything is CNC machined which makes it stronger.

While you are doing it, if you have a Tremec 3650 that would be a good time to replace the factory overfill with 3.2 quarts of your favorite transmission fluid. The open shifter hole makes the perfect place to (carefully) pour in the new fluid.
