Default Gas tank issue

Curious how many Mustang owners are having issues with the gas tank. In the past few months whenever I stop to fill up, I am unable to get more than about a gallon of gas in the tank before it begins turning off. Then it is a continuous battle between me and the car to get the tank full. I have to pump it very slowly and it takes several minutes to get 2/3 of a tank if I'm lucky. It has been enough of an issue for Ford to issue a bulletin but they are unwilling to recall the tanks or fix it. The solution is a new gas tank at $1000 plus labor. Please comment if you are experience a similar issue or know someone who is. Thank you.

its a much easier fix than that...

you can either pull the gas nozzle out about an inch while your filling, or if you uhh...how do i say this... dont let the nozzle just drop in and sit into the hole, but kinda pull the lever towards your car. mine shuts off occasionally if i just drop it in and let it sit but if i do either of the above no problems.

Sorry, but I have tried all of these things. I never put the nozzle allthe way in and still it is an issue. Mine started out doing it occasionally and the suggestions you had worked for a while but no longer. Fords' solution is a new gas tank, they issued a bulletin about the problem. Thans!!!

there is no real solution to the problem because of the saddle-style tank design. My '08 has the newer styled tank and it still has problems.

You can try cleaning or replacing the EVAP cannister/emissions system and/or re-angle the fuel filler neck as it is usually just slightly too long and causes the station pumps to detect higher pressure and shut off before the tank is actully full.

It definately is annoying. When I had this problem, I use to not hold the pump all the way down - just hold it in half speed and it would not stop but that got very annoying. I replaced my EVAP cannister and filter and shortened and re-angled my fuel inlet filler neck hose about 2 months ago and have not had any issues yet. Now maybe as time goes on and my EVAP gets a little dirty, Ill have the same problem again? - I guess we will see. But it sure beats the costly Ford "fix" with the new tank.
