Default 302 will not fit

Ok, so I am trying to drop a 302 into my 65 mustang. Prevously it had a straight 6, but it was from a truck. It originally had a 289, before I got it. I bolted the tranny up, which fit just fine. When I dropped it in the bottom of the oil pan hits the frong cross member. I have a front sump oil pan on it. The 302 is a 68'. I looked online to order a new oil pan, but the one's I have found have the same dimensions as the one I have. Does anyone have any suggestion on what I should do from here?

Motor mounts/perches? In the past I've always had to change the perches if I was changing the block series...

I can't even begin to answer your question, but if you re-post this in the Classic Mustangs section I'm sure you'll find all the help you need.

Thanks for the advise. I just posted it in the classic mustang section. And I did already try putting new motor mounts and pedestals. The motor doesn't drop down enough to bolt up.

There are no external physical differences between the 289 and 302 that would cause a problem. If you have the 68 pan, it should drop in unless your cars cross member has been changed or is bent. I have swapped them many times and never had a problem. Maybe because of the 6 from a truck, the cross member is wrong.

One additional thought is that, way back in the past (due to this I don't recall which car/engine it was), I did a swap and that engine wouldn't go down in far enough. Turned out that I had to put the right side mount down into position before the other side would go. That may have been the slomaro but I'm really not sure...
