Throttle Body + Underdrive pulley vs. 3:73
Hey guys, I have a quick question.
I currently have a 2010 mustang GT Premium (non track pack with 3:31 gears) with a Steeda Intake and Bama tunes.
I have the urge to make my car go a little bit faster, and I have narrowed my choices down to two options. Help me choose.
1. Change my cars ratio to 3:73. I know that this will definitely give me more pull in accelerating, but I am cautious of loosing some of my precious and scarce ride comfort. I have some flowmaster 17410 axel backs, and my car is allready too loud on the highway @ 2000 RPM........i am weary of putting the 3:73 ratio cause my cruise RPM will probably go higher making my interior noise louder.
Also, I plan to go to drive on the Highway frequently starting august, when I transer to the University of San Diego, California. MY current home is 140 miles away, and I still plan on visiting my family every/other week....so I guess I will be using the highways a lot.
Thirdly, because I will mainly use the highways in the future, I will probably get much less gas mileage.
2. Buy a BBK twin 62mm throttle body and a Steeda underdrive pulley instead
This will probably be the cheaper option, considering that if I get the gears, I will have to buy a new 8.8in Rear Gear Pinion Bearing as well as installation fees (probably $600 vs. $534)
I will probably gain anywhere between 10-20HP, but I know this minuscule increase will not give me such a huge gain in acceleration as the 3:73 gears will give.
But with my choice #2 combination, I might get a slight increase in gas mileage....whereas if I choose option #1, I might loose gas mileage.
So here we go. Are my thoughts on this matter correct? Will I loose as much ride comfort and gas mileage as I am exaggerating (if I get 3:73 gears)? Will I even feel the difference in power choosing the throttle body and underdrive pulley? Will the 3:73 gears make such a huge improvement that I will care less about my ride comfort and gas mileage?
What will you guys get knowing my circumstances?

I personally would go with #1 without a doubt.
I went from 3.31s to 3.73s and noticed a significant improvement. I was considering getting 4.10s but am happy I went with the 3.73s because I feel that 4.10s would be too much on the highway. There's nothing that makes me second guess getting them (fuel economy/noise/whine etc)
Aftermarket TB's are worthless unless you go F/I. Plus from what I've read, it seems like they often do more harm than good (CEL lights etc)
You'll notice the gains with the 3.73 more so than with a TB & UDP

You will barely notice a difference from your stock gears to 3.73s. If your gonna spend the money make it worthwhile and go 3.90s or 4.10s. I drove new edges like mine with both gears and the 3.73s felt almost same as stock. The 4.10s were awesome but 2500 rpms at 70 and a useless 1st gear turned me off. I went with 3.90s and couldn't be happier. Pulls like a freight train,5th isn't a dog gear anymore and my mileage improved in city and stayed same on highway. I think because I need less pedal pressure to maintain speed.

Centri - 4.10's
Twin screw - 3.73's
Turbo - keep your 3.31's
No blower? Then don't fear the gear and go 4.10's
The throttle body will be a nice expensive paperweight. It's been proven that on cars that aren't pushing 450+ they are good for maybe 8-10hp and can effect drive-ability. Perhaps instead of the TB, get some CMDP's and Underdrive Pulleys to make a good power combo for cheaper.
My vote would be for CMDP's and UDP's.

Go with the gears. I have all 3 of these mods on my 04 GT, The underdrive pullies are useless, maybe 4 hp gain that isn't noticable. The throttle body is useless unless you drive at Wide-open-throttle, and the 3.73's are OK. At 70 mph in fifth gear it cruises at 2000 rpm. All-in-all, I would get 3.90 gears if I were you.
