Default Helping my Neighbor

Hi my name is Matt, I drive slighty modded 2000 Mitsu Galant. I am currenlty helping my neighbor with his 69 Mustang Coupe. the car hasnt been running in quite sometime. We just put a new carb, cap n rotor, New thermostat, plugs, oil change. Really just the basics for now. I joined here cause we are having a cooling issue with it, and no the thermostat is not in backwards. Ill take it over to the problem section.

What else do you guys recommend I do? Fairly new to Fords, I believe its either a regular 302, or a 289. Cant remeber. But it was rebuilt in 92ish, roller rocker arms, cam, edlebrock intake. Rebuilt c4 trans with a higher stall. Thats what I was told but who knows

Matt, this could be a number of things! First of all you said that it has not run in quite some time! This could be months or years, do you know how long?

It is possible that you have a bad thermostat, or if not run in a long time some corrosion or build up in the engine. The water pump could be having an issue!

Try removing the thermostat and see if it runs cool, if it does then the thermostat is the issue! If still runs hot potentially the water pump and if not that then possible deeper issues but start with the thermostat removal.
