Brake Overhaul. Please Help.
Hey. I've been having brake problems with my 2002 V6 ever since I bought it (2 years). I got it and the front rotors were slightly warped. I figured it was no problem so I continued driving. Then about 6 months ago something weird happened and all of a sudden my front rotors became extremely warped. I decided to go ahead and get new rotors. My pads still had plenty to go.
Right after I put on my new front rotors my braking was silky smooth. It's an awesome feeling. BUT not even two days later, warped again! I thought maybe I didn't set them correctly, but I did loosely follow the setting guidelines. I said screw it. Brand new rotors. I wasn't about to drop $70 more (with Pep Boys employee discount) on new ones. So I continued driving. Maybe it's stuck calipers?
Not long ago my pads started to go. I get that faint squeal when braking. I also started to notice my driver side front brake was sticking. I'm getting terrible gas mileage and can hear/feel the warped rotor consistently rubbing against the pad (or lack of pad). What's worse, like an idiot I touched the rotor to see how hot it was. Now my finger is throbbing and I have a huge white blister on the tip.
And yet another thing, I think my parking brake is sticking. If I ever pull it up more than two clicks I get a lot of slack at the down position as if the brake didn't disengage. So I need to fix that too.
Here's what I'm thinking. I need to get new pads for my back brakes. I need to turn the rotors on the front and get new pads on the front. And I might also need new calipers so the rotors don't immediately warp again. And I need to find a way to loosen up or unbind the parking brake.
It would be awesome if somebody could tell me what all I need to do to fix the problem. Take it to a shop (how many hours labor is that)? Just spend a weekend doing it myself? What all do I need to do? How much is it going to cost?
Anyway, thanks a lot for reading my post. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
