What's the best film to use for window tinting?
Hello all, recently purchased a 2009 V-6 auto, and wanted to know (from your experience) what brand of window film you would recommend for my windows?
Also, do you tint 'all' windows, or not. Should I have installer leave a 1/4 off the windows to allow for the automatic lowering/raising feature (which I really like!).
One thing that I have read in the past few days on different window tinting sites is that they recoomend you to 'not' use your windows for the first few days after an install, to allow for the film to adhere properly to the glass.
Is there any whay that I can 'override' this feature and disable it?

Honestly I would hold out, save up some money and go get it professionally installed. I attempted to tint my own windows a couple years ago, it is doable…but you need patience. I got my film from Auto Zone. I started with my rear quarter windows and they worked pretty well. Then attempted the rear window and wasted the rest of the roll I had trying to figure it out. So I left the two windows tinted for a good year or so. Then went and got it done right by a guy starting a tinting shop out of his garage… (I got a good deal)
And NO you have to leave your windows up for at least 2-3 days and have your car SIT under DIRECT SUN LIGHT!!! This even means at the ATM or The Wendy's drive up window!!!! This is VERY important just because the glue on the film needs to dry and adhere to the glass.....and if your rolling the windows up and down you'll just ruin all the work you did. So IMO just save the money, time, and frustration and get it installed by someone who knows what they are doing. It should only take a few hours. And all the shops in my area offer a lifetime warranty with their work. You’ll be happy just check your state laws and then make the decision if you wanna follow them or not. lol

Norrisrn - The main reason you had difficulty with the film is because as you said, you bought it from Autozone. It was most likely Gila which is a horrible, horrible film. The rear window gives people headaches because most people do not know you have to 'shrink' the film to fit. It's an easy process when you know what you're doing and you can knock a complete mustang out in less than 2 hours.
I've been doing this for years and I use ***Tek film (can't say name in public) and I have never had problems with it. Tried Llumar and 3M and they are honestly garbage when compared.
You CAN do it yourself with the proper tools and patience. If anyone is interested I can cut the film for you, pre cut using my cutter and software so it will be an exact fit. The rear window will have minimal shrinking as a Mustang is one of the easiest cars to tint. If anyone is interested let me know or if anyone has any other questions about tint in general please feel free to ask, tinting is my job.

ramprat1983 - Yup your exactly right I did use the cheap stuff!!! I feel that I used the Llumar stuff that you mentioned. But in my defense I was young and dumb and that’s all they sold at AutoZone. lol live and learn right???
I knew you had to shrink it down a little bit but just got angry with it lol...
Half my problem was the cutting down to the exact size. I know I screwed up the driver and passenger window but not cutting it right from the start. Then getting the bubbles out once it was on the window...
But cut film would make it easier. Or at least you will not screw up from the start...
