you will not lose mileage by removing the spoiler. If anything at all, you would reduce drag and actually gain some miniscule amount of mileage. Either way, you would never notice it.

IMO - the 99+ cars look so much better without the spoiler and they would be easier to wash and wax without the stupid thing on there. The exception is the cobra ducktail which looks awesome.
True dat. To answer one of his original questions: the spoiler can be taken off by removing the four nuts holding it on there. They are on the underside of the trunk.

Wow. That was the stupidest thing I heard all night. Thanks for the laugh. I'm sure that little wing that ford gives up really gives us less drag. They make them for looks, not function.

How does adding something to the back of a car create less drag.

lmao 4600cc what are you also smoking?

If anything, that spoiler ADDS drag to the car.

Aerodynamically speaking it isn't a spoiler, it's a wing. Air can travel between it, and the mounting surface. The 03/04 Cobras are the only spoilers on SN95's.

I understand what 4600 is saying a wing can smooth out the air flow, and create less drag in most applications, but I really don't think Ford went to the wind tunnel to work this one out. But if someone has some info where Ford actually did I would love to see the results...

And I see you edited this post. Maybe you spelt wrong too? Everyone makes mistakes, kinda like what you are doing right now by arguing with me.

Ford Taurus, Escort RS Cosworth. They were designed with auerodynamics in mind.

In the early 60s, Ferrari's engineers discovered that by adding an air foil to the rear end, lift can be dramatically reduced or even generates net downforce. The wing has the effect of directing the majority of air flow to leave the roof straightly without going to the back, this reduce lift. There is still a little bit air flow follows the back and leave the tail under the wing. This avoid turbulence that appears in non-fastback car, thus remain drag-efficient. Since there is too little air follows this route, its contribution to the lift can be easily cancelled by the wing.

A higher cobra r wing will be better, since it sits higher and get rids of the air coming down rear windshield and pushing on the trunk. You all do believe at least that cobra r wing is functinal? What's the difference between that one and yours? The height, higher wings is better since it get rids of the air coming down the rear windshield and pushing on the the trunk.

Go ahead, call this rice, then all cobra r owners are ricers!

What's the difference between steeda's "functional" rear wing? The angle, they provide downforce, while your stock wing get rids of lift and disposes of air in the back.

Another thing, all that manufacturer has to watch out for is the angle and construction of the wing. They don't actually have to do any testing and adjusting using wind tunnel. A wing is a wing, it help if you put it on.

Remember those super cudas, those ugly muscle cars with ugly front cover and a rear wing? They were ugly, but fast!

Those were SuperBirds and Daytonas, and there is a lot more to it than just throwing a wing on a car. Chrysler spent many, many hours in a wind tunnel to get those cars right, and had already begun testing the '71's when NASCAR pulled the plug on aerodynamics. That's when NASCAR died in my eyes...

There is a balance between downforce and drag, you can't have one without the other...
