Its not the ECM. Its the PCM (PowerTrain Control Module) that talks to the VSS. According to the Factory Service Manuals schematic the PCM, VSS, Speed Control Amplifier and Instrument cluster are all in parallel to each other. On all parts, power comes in from a Gray/Black wire and ground comes in from a Pink/Orange wire.
