overheated 2001 Cobra
I took my 2001 Cobra to the dealership for the 15k service. They changed the oil and flushed the coolant system and put in fresh coolant. When I drove away from the dealer, I noticed the engine was not making full power. Then the temp guage went full HOT! I shut down the engine and called the dealership. They told me to limp back. I drove back to the dealership keeping the enging under 2000 rpm (total roundtrip was about 9 miles). By the time I got back to the dealership, the engine was knocking, I could smell the engine and the power was way down.
They told me there must have been an air bubble in the coolant system. They gave me back the car and said everything was ok. Well, how do I know there was no permanent damage? The engine does not smoke when I start it and it seems ok. What can be done to detect any long term damage? What tests can be run or parts should be changed? I have a friend that suggested the water hoses and thermostat should be changed.
Any suggestions?
