Dealership service question
Hi. I have a 2003 v6 mustang with 64,000 miles. I went into the Ford dealership this morning for my usual state inspection and oil change. Since I was there I asked them to check on the "chirping" noise that just recently started coming from engine. They told me it was a bad "camshaft synchronizer" and it would cost around $390 bucks to fix.
Question: Can I call other Ford dealerships to ask them how much they would charge? Would they give me a quote over the phone? Or do all Ford dealerships charge the same amount? I like to comparison shop and would hate to think that I payed more than I had to.
Thanks.

Dealerships use what they call book time. You probably can ask what the book time is. You may find it cheaper somewhere else, but my guess it will not be a significant difference. I would bet you will be paying another diagnostic charge taking it somewhere else.
