Gear shift light stuck in D

Gear shift light stuck in D
Anyone have any ideas on this?......My 05 Mustang V6 wont start. Its not the battery or starter. The gear shifter light is stuck on D no matter what position the shifter is in. It wont start in Park or Neutral. Does this sound like possibly the Neutral Safety Switch or do I need a whole new gearshifter assembly?
