Default Question about dyno tune...

Do you see more HP with a dyno tune than the handheld ones from SCT with Bama/Breenspeed etc etc tunes?

All the videos I've seen with the same build, using a SCT tuner always get between 410-420 whp with full exhaust, intake tune...

I was looking at a dyno shops FB page near me and they had dyno results of a 2012 mustang gt with full exhaust and intake where they tuned it and it put down 437hp and 419trq.

That would of been my response, but I needed at least 5 characters.

What do they do different to gain more power that the handheld tuners dont do?

The hand helds are more conservative on timing and the like. Reason being is they dont have their hand on the car, every engine is different and a dyno tuner can tune the SPECIFIC car. The email based tunes are tuned so that ANY car can safely run the tune, therfore it is more conservative to avoid a borked engine turning into a lawsuit.

A good dyno tuner will scoop up much more hp/tq than those canned tunes for exactly the reasons posted: You can do more detailed work in person instead of making a vague blanket guess of a tune.

it will literally allow you to "see" the hp since they will give you a graph showing its hp/tq curves. And as they said since the dyno(A good one anyway) will be connected to the car to monitor the AFR and temps to maximize the motors potential.

So, if I was going to go with a dyno tune.. can I just get any regular intake and skip the handheld tuner?

A local shop charged $350 for a N/A engine and $500 to tune a forced induction motor.

also, i f I were to get a CAI that is "tune required" could I put it on and drive it fine to the dyno or should I wait and have them install it before they put it on the dyno?

Cus Im wanting to do headers/full exhaust too.

If its a tune required intake, guess what? It needs a tune

The car will run like poo and go into limp mode without it.

Even if you're getting a dyno tune, I recommended getting the tuner so you can still read/clear codes and datalog.
