Here is a nice set of experiments done by European Car Magazine. They used combustion fuel research engine instead of dynos.

Yes correct, that is how octane is measured the RON/MON method, nobody ever uses a dyno, it's always done with a varible compression engine like the one in your link. Good job there Mr. GoogleTech

There seems to be no love lost between JD1969 and 4600cc. I may not be a mechanic, but based on some of the posts I see you make 4600cc, I think you know just enough to be dangerous.
