Default What happened to my speakers?

After I bought my 98 mustang, one of the first things I did to it was replace the factory speakers. I could easily tell that the rear speakers were 6x8's since you can see them but I didn't know what the front ones were. My dad didnt know how to take the door panels of and neither did I but he thought that they were 5.25's. So we bought a set and then when I had the door panels poped off, I learned they were 6x8's aswell. So I had an extra set on 5.25 xplod speakers. The others were 6x8 Pioneers. Well, they sat in my room for awhile still in the box and then after I bought an amp later on, i decided to fit these speakers in it somewhere. There is 2 large square opening in the rear deck right beside the other speakers, so I drilled some holes and installed the speakers. At first I thought they were really good. After awhile of playing them, I turned it up and it makes this loud "Blurp" pop sound. I figured maybe the speakers just have good highs and mids but ****ty lows. Plus I thought maybe I'm just used to the 6x8's and I'm trying to compare it to them. Well, they blurp when I turn it to 20 which is only 2/3's all the way up. The Pioneers dont distort till 25. After awhile I figured it out. When I took my 2 small subs off the amp, I left the bass boast up on 12 dbs (0-6-12dbs) and left it on low frequency instead of full range for speakers. So I pretty much had these things working like subs. Well, I first clicked it to full range and it starts to make this really fast clicking sound. Like a leaf stuck in the spoke of a bicycle wheel. I turned the bass down but it really didnt do much to the clicking. Low frenquency back on, stops clicking. Off, starts again. And when I drive, the more I accelerate the faster it clicks. What happened? Can you blow a high or mid? It doesnt sound like its effecting the bass of the speakers, but I can't pinpoint the sound so I think it may be coming from the mids or highs. I dont know much but I'm very sure the wiring is hooked up correctly. Also, they are running off the amp with one to each channel. So there is no complactions with not enough power or whatever. Help would be greatly appreciated and hopefully dont tell me they are ruined.

Yes, you can damage ANY sort of speaker with misuse. Either way, sounds like there is something wrong with the coils, and chances are you should just by a new pair. Pioneer...probably cost like 50 bucks.,

Took forever to install those bastards. Well, I guess I wont be doing that again. I guess you can't fix something like that, then?I I'm going to replace the speakers, I'll fit another set of Pioneers down in there. I imagine another set of 6x8's would fit in the hole, but they make 5x7's and 6x9's too, so I'll piddle till I get it. Umm, a good question...since the Xplod's are smaller than the Pioneers, is it fair to compare them? I don't have much experience in the sound gallery, but I think they are really nice. My amp is also a 760W Pioneer and the head unit is a Xplod(it acts stupid sometimes, I don't think I'm having much luck with Sony)...I had a nice mixture of Xplod and Sony going but I'm just gonna stick with Pioneer now. Your thoughts(other than it was my fault and not to blame Sony solely lol)?

I got the xplod speakers(1 set) off of ebay new for 35 bucks shipped and the Pioneers(2 sets) for 70 bucks shipped, so those little things were more expensive for me too.
