Default 05 gt seems sluggish

Just got an 05 mustang get auto like 6 months ago. It had some mods on it from the previous owner ( BBK 62mm tb, functional cervins ram air hood, flowmaster 40 axel back exhaust. ) it had 43k miles. Now has 50k

Ive never had a mustang before so I wasn't sure what to expect but it seemed OK. (I was planning to put a lot of mods into this car) but I recently timed my 0-60 and it was almost 9 seconds. And I get NO tire spin even from flooring it with stock tires. I ran about 4 runs (0-60) with the same result. Than tried again the next day and the BEST I got was 8.5 seconds. I purchased a bamma SCT tuner and I'm running a 93 race e-mail tune I talked to a friend and his 06 will destroy the tires in first and chirp second pretty good and he SAYS he can consistently run 5.3 second 0-60 and his car is stock except for CAI and tune.

Ive already got 4.10 gears but haven't had them installed. I don't want to spend the money if there's something wrong with my car? I mean I've had 4x4 trucks that can run a 9 second 0-60

Something isn't right there.

A bone stock 05 GT should run 0-60 in a tick over 5 seconds. Heck, even an unmodified 4.0L V6 will do it right around 6.9-7.0...

If you're running 8.5-9.0 sec in a GT, there's definitely something not right.

I wish I knew what to check. The car is in PERFECT shape and I have no trouble codes. I called my local repair shop and they said they could try and replace the fuel filter and spark plugs and clean the fuel injectors but its pretty pricy and I they have no idea if it will help or not. But something is deffenatly not right.

I used to have a Chevy blazer ( piece of junk) and there was a problem with the catylic converter and it lost a LOT of power but It was pushing close to 200,000 miles I find it hard to believe I'd be having cat problems with hardly 50k on the car

I'd try the relatively cheap stuff first:

Change the plugs
Change the fuel filter
Clean the MAF sensor (you can get cleaning spray at the local autoparts)
Reset the computer learned engine management (yank the battery ground cable for about 15 min)

I agree, plugged cats will certainly rob power, but not very likely on a relatively low mi car.

What about the trans? You said it is an auto right? Maybe it is not so healthy and is not getting the power to the rear wheels?

Hamidar might be on to something...the previous owner probably beat it up, most Mustangs do get beat up. Trans or your rear end could be overly worn. Put the 4.10's in it and see what happens, but be warned. Your highway speeds/MPG will be affected.

If it is a transmission problem, putting the 4.10's could worsen the issue and/or increase stress on the trans, as it then must turn faster for any given speed.

I'm not seeing a way a worn rear end could add ~4 sec to his 0-60.

At first I thought it may be the transmission but it shifts Really good and sounds great I've had 4 transmissions go out in cars I've owned before and for me its always been really obvious when something starts to go wrong. A shake or bad noise or something. Is it possible for a transmission to just start loosing power because its been ran really hard?

I know a guy who has done all of my transmission work in the past and he really knows his stuff maybe ill have him check it out and see what he has to say.

I'm goanna go ahead and put the 4.10's in my next mod was going to be a TCI 3,000RPM stall Torque Converter I could have the trans rebuilt at the same the Torque Converter is installed if necessary.

maybe i should just get rid of the car and get a used 2011 :P
