Good idea or bad???
Ok, Ive posted on this forum before about some engine stuff etc. And my main goal in a nut shell is to get a V8 in my 99' V6. And I was talking about getting a 302 block but when I looked at new ones from ford they were over $1k!!! So I also saw on there, there production GT 4.6L block and thought "hey I could just start a V8 build on this block"! And heres the link.....

Just look at that price for a brand new V8 block....$325!!! But basically ladies and gents I just want to know what you guys think about my "idea" of buying this production GT block and starting a build on it to drop in my 99' V6 or any better ideas???
Also.....Im not trying to build a drag beast or anything, I just want it for a daily driver and the occasional Street race. Thought that might help. Thanks!

RE: Good idea or bad???
Honestly you could get a stock 302 block for that cheaper and build a way nicer motor for what your going to have to spend on a mod motor. Why not just buy one from a bone yard and throw it in or just buy a crate motor like a gt40 it will be alot cheaper that way?

99saleen thanks for the input....
The reason why I dont go to a boneyard and get a engine/block is because Im sure I'll have to get it machined and rebored and etc. to get it all ready for use/good shape again. And Im not sure but I bet its not cheap! And buying a brand new block, there is no worry of that.
And I cant find a stock 302 block thats not used....unless like I said that one I saw on Fords website for over $1k! If you know somewhere that sells 302 blocks that compare to the stock GT block in price def. tell me!
And correct me if Im wrong but isnt "crate" motor meant already built up pretty much??? Thats the whole point, I want to do it myself, and also with that, a crate motor is a few thousand $ and of course it will take that much almost to build that stock GT block up but Im going to build it up slow because funds etc.....I just dont have $3k or w/e it would cost in my pocket.

RE: Good idea or bad???
Having a blocked cleaned, dipped and rebored isnt really all that expensive. Its only gonna be a couple of hundred bucks. My friend had a block cleaned, dipped and bored for about $175, but that was with the help of his vocational teacher. Probably cant be much more then that honestly.

RE: Good idea or bad???
exactly....see around $175 or more plus the cost of the block to do it on. So I think my idea of a new block for only $325 with everything already done to it is the better deal. Thanks for the input though....keep it coming.

RE: Good idea or bad???
A friend of mine just bought a complete Explorer 302 (1997) for around $300 and had the machine work done for around $250. bear in mind this was a great deal, but deals are out there. It sounds to me you are not looking in the right places used 302 blocks can be had for $100 all day around here.

RE: Good idea or bad???
But honestly your way better off to start with a 302 even if it has to be bored out and prepped cause for the money you want to spend you could have a way more powerful 302 than you will ever get from a 4.6.The problem with the 4.6 is they make no torque at all and the 302 can make alot, torque is what its all about.

Ya, but Im sure they will still have to be rebored and conditoned. If you know of any please let me know.
