It's doesn't really look like the vent cannister per say, (the cannister may be somewhere else & controlled by this though) it's actually an ecu of some sort. It looks like a bigger version of the ecu that runs the engine. I can't get far enough under to see where the lines go towards the front until my dad gets done with the floor jack. What doesn't make sense to me is: why such a big freakin ecu just to control the dump valve for the fuel vapors? This thing is bigger than the ecu that runs the engine.

Yep all cars now have what they call "the black box", kind of like an airplane. In the event of an accident the data can be downloaded. It will give info such as how fast you were going, accelerating or stopping, when you hit the brakes, and so on. This information can/will be used by your insurance company and/or law enforcement in serious accidents involving a fatality. Some rental companies also use to verify you didn't go 120mph in that car you just turned in.

No more lying about how fast you were going. They'll already know.

its the ECU so good luck removing it and still driving. Dont worry though, its not like they get real time data from you, they have to plug in and download the info and then know how to decifer it. plus I dont think it gives gps data.
