Check Charging System
I have a 2006 Mustang GT. A week ago the check engine light came on. Took it to the shop they gave me the error code. I looked online and everyone said to check the alternator. They tested it and it was bad. I bought an alternator and installed it the same day. The car started great, drove great, and the check engine light went off.
Three days later on my way home from work the battery light and check charging system light appeared.
Was I sold a bad alternator? The battery meter shows the battery as being charged and ok. Anyone have a problem like this after replacing an alternator?
Thanks in advance.

Will do, thanks Callahan. This is frustrating because I am a noob to the mechanical world. Changing this alternator was the first mechanical job I have done and I was proud that I did it alone. I guess I'll be getting some good practice. *sigh
When you buy a new alternator have them test it before you put it in next time. Will save you time and give you reassurance it is okay. Bad alternators can cause damage to batteries. The battery does help start your car but after it starts it also acts as a electrical regulator. So by putting on a brand new alternator it might have unearthed a bad battery.
