Default Offtopic General Ford question - Enthusiasts needed

Friend of mine has a 2002 Explorer, 4.0 SOHC that he bought to re-sell after fixing up.
It needed a motor, so he sourced one and paid a local shop for the install.
Afterwards, it's still a no-start. Engine won't crank past 1/4 turn. Installer claimed tranny problems were binding it all up, so we brought the truck to my local tranny shop(undisputed king of trannys around here) and he said the trans is fine. Engine, without trans bolted up, still won't turn past 1/4 crank.

Long story short, I need to know the location of the engine ID tag on this block. Ford tells me that it will either be a partial VIN, or a coded number identifying which truck it came from. They tell me its on the back of the block, under the heads. It's not. I have multiple techs telling me that Ford no longer prints any data on their blocks, I've already found some. Behind the starter there is 20 05 03, which seems to somewhat lineup with a date code found on the valve cover stickers. None of this is useful to me. I need to identify which truck this came from so my friend can begin court paperwork.

Any help?
