Default Please help!

I have a 2002 Mustang convertible, when I push in the clutch the engine starts revving pretty high. I need to like ride the clutch to bring it down. It doesn't happen all the time but it is getting more frequent and it doesn't seem to matter if the engine is warm or cold.

Any ideas?? Somebody said maybe the oxigen sensor? If so where is it and is it hard to replace?

Thanks for any help or advice!!!

This seems somewhat contradicting. You state that depressing the clutch causes the engine to rev high (which is probably normal if you are still on the gas). However, you need to ride it to keep the RPMs down? How does continuing to depress the clutch bring the RPMs down if depressing the clutch causes the motor to rev high? I'm slightly confused.

It sounds like the Idle Air Control valve needs cleaned or replaced. To clean this marvel of technology use carb cleaner sprayed into the hose that runs from the intake hose to the throttle body or remove the part and soak in carb cleaner overnite.

How about a picture or two?

Thank my 04 GT for the pictures, this was before I started making changes to the engine.

In both of them, your throttle body and plenum are boxed in with a red box... In the first picture (from the front), the throttle body is on the left side of the plenum (thing with the shiny pony on it). In the green box is your IAC I do believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Great pictures, I think I can find it now. I don't have a GT but I have something similar. So where is the hose I should clean?

Correction, mine does not look like yours. I don't have that little box, the IAC! My engine is the 3.8 6 cyl.

Thanks again!!!

The IAC appears to sit right on top of the T/B.It's the round thing that looks to be about 4 inches long and 1 1/2 in diameter. There should be a 3/4 outside diameter (or so) hose going into the IAC.Remove one end of this hose and start the engine be sure the hand brake is set and the car secured so it won't move.Spray carb cleaner into the hose and keep the engine running with the throttle blade bellcrank.I think you can buy a new IAC for about $40 at one of the auto parts stores.

Hmm, don't remember seeing anything like that but I will look again tonight when I get home. Thanks for the help!!!

I will see if I can find a picture or else I will take a picture of my engine and you can point it out if I don't find it!
