I appreciate the feedback. I was skeptical anyway. How could it be accurate pulling info from a cigarette lighter. Is it the same for the one made by autometer? I would like to have one only because I can't race at the track anymore. I don't have a cut-off switch for my battery that is located in the trunk and I have no immediate planes to cut a hole in my car to add one. So I will primarily be running it on the street.

i forgot autometer had one........honestly, if it were me, id rather have the Autometer since theyve been in the business for a while, and theyd probaby have a better way to measure so it might be more accurate....idk. ill stick to track times, or racing my friends that are fast and compare my car to theirs.

It only uses power from the cig lighter, they are an accelerometer. They basicly measure g-force and convert that into feet per second, then convert that to a 1/4 mile time. The problem with them is that they depend on too many factors that are tough to repeat consistantly. For example the angle and location of the mounting point, the pitch of the road and how violently the car launches amoung other things. I used one in my Nova one time and said I ran a 12.8 the next day I went to the track and ran 11.4, to me they are just all over the place. 97, I bet if you got creative you could find a way to mount that switch without cutting a hole. I put one in the parking light of my 69 Super Bee and it worked fine.

99% of the time.........its USER error........period. I have used it on many, many, cars......from a newer vette, newer Z28 (one auto and one 6spd, my truck, wifey's car, my Mustang, many muscle cars, etc...and its been very accurate. Sure a track is better, but I use it when modding, or looking to buy something new. I level it in my garage every time before I head out of my neighborhood and let it blink till I get to the road I use it on. You need to have it set on 0, not + or -, to get an accurate reading. That is why I pre-set mine. It is always very consistent also, so its great to check to see if mods are helping...hurting....or ?? I have the older version and the only thing is that you need to subtract 3mph on your QM, but your times will be correct.

Thanks for the info UhadMEatGT. I have seen the older models cheap on EBay. Is that the one that you have?

I may try one of the older ones just for curiosity sake.
