Default Any downsides to flash tuner?

If you change the timing or anything else with the flash tuner, will it affect the wear on your engine over time?

I think the only downside to timing is that you need to run more expensive gas. but I'm not 100% sure about the wear and tear aspect.

As long as you don't set the timing too high and start pinging you will be fine.

They really seem to be a waste of money. I was just over at the dyno the other day and there was a guy with a Vette there. He just bought a $400 handheld. I don't recall what brand. But after they went through the tune it turns out he actually lost 3 hp with the tuner. For the same money, you can have it dyno tuned which is WAY more effective. You may not see a huge increase in peak power, but you'll pick up power all the way though the power band.

Dyno tuning uses a flash tuner.

I would think that Corvettes come pretty well tuned already though.

Dyno tuning uses a flash tuner.
He was talking about a handheld. Not tuning the car with a dyno and a laptop.

Actually they don't, but on a realtivly stock car the tune does not really do very much for you.
